About this Hotel

Price From $115

'Hood Oceanfront along Alii Drive, the main strip of restaurants and shops in the city of Kailua-Kona. It's a short drive to surrounding nature parks and an hour to Waipio Valley, a lush ancient gorge.

The Gist It's hard to find a spot on this sprawling property that doesn't offer splendid vistas of the Pacific Ocean stretching to the horizon. And it can be hard to find a reason to leave given the resort's split-level swimming pool, private beach, saltwater swimming lagoon, and four tennis courts. Three high-rise towers house the 436 guest rooms, which were recently renovated over a staggered, three-year-long process (finishing with the six-story Bay tower later this year). Decor incorporates local flavor—bamboo furniture, floral bedspreads, and beachy prints above the beds. Even with the recent revamp, some online reviewers complain about tidiness.

Free Wi-Fi? No; available for $10 per day.

Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, Discover, MC, Visa.

Details Doubles from $115, partial-ocean-view rooms from $175, suites from $275. Luau tickets are available for $75 for adults and $28 for children (ages 6–11); drinks and dinner are included. Hotel guests receive a half-price ticket when purchasing one full-price ticket.

Thanks for Sharing "If you are looking for a budget hotel right in the heart of things and with many amenities, the Royal Kona is for you," reader Kathryn writes. "The beach is rocky, so you will have to either swim in the pool or go to the beach just up the road."
